Prez Sez – May 2017

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are having a nice Spring and getting outdoors to enjoy it.  Even propagation on the HF bands has improved in the last week.

Several weeks ago our 440 repeater started having problems and was shut down. On Sunday, April 30th, David B. and Pet went up the hill to check things out. The power supply was the problem and probably the rectifier diodes. I gave them one of my backup supplies to use temporarily and the repeaters are back up and functioning, but not linked. David is repairing the power supply and he and Pet will put it back in operation in a couple weeks.

While they are up there, David noticed one of the receivers was in need of replacement and will look on ebay for another one that meets our specific needs. At the April meeting we learned that we do not have a backup power source for the repeaters in case of a power failure so we are also looking for a commercial quality UPS that is rack mounted to address this. When an emergency occurs is when we will really need the repeater so this makes sense while we are up on Mt Tom doing other maintenance. When this is completed we should be in great shape. A big thank you to David and Pet for making this happen.

At our upcoming May meeting we have a lot on the agenda. First of all Allie has obtained the business cards for those who ordered them. Thank you, Allie. By the way she has been really working hard on her CW.

Also we will discuss the equipment list for Field Day .Finally the feature presentation (loud trumpets please) is on the Bitx40 xcvr that many hams on the internet are excited about.
