Prez Sez February 2018

Hi Everyone,

First of all, an apology for missing last month’s Prez Sez column due to illness.

This month we had great attendance at our first Sat of the month breakfast. I would like to encourage everyone to join us. We meet at the Central Grill on Central in Glendale at 8 AM.
It is located on the northwest corner on the second block north of the freeway. There is always plenty of easy, free parking.

The topics of this month’s regular meeting will be the uBitx (micro Bitx) and setting up your station to work digital modes. The uBitx has been selling so fast that sales are now in the thousands. I ordered one in mid Dec and it is scheduled to arrive from India in about 3 weeks. When I get it put together, I will bring it in to share. Not only is the company, HF Signals providing jobs for formerly unemployed women in India, but where else can you buy an all band (160 to 10, SSB and CW) transceiver for $109 shipped. The neat thing it is open source and is designed to be experimented with by hams.

At the last meeting I raised the topic of controversial proposed changes at the ARRL. I am happy to announce that after lots of feedback from the membership, the changes will not be made. Also one of the top ARRL people has retired so now maybe the league can get back to supporting our hobby and away from all the power struggles. Somehow though, I feel that there will be additional followup announcements.

By the way, I still have 2 low pass filters looking for a home. Let me know if you want one.
