Diana Feinberg gave an excellent and very interesting presentation on lighthouses at the July meeting. It is really great that ARRL supports us with presentations.
This month we are having our traditional picnic instead of a meeting at the hospital. The picnic will be on the second Sunday in August, August 13th. We will meet in the northeast corner of Crescenta Valley Park at 5 PM as we have in the past.
This year since we are not having the BBQ, we decided at the last general meeting to have the club supply pizza and fried chicken. Larry and Pet are taking care of purchasing it. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish to share that has a least 8 servings (salad, dip, or dessert) and whatever they would like to drink.
I talked to David KO6TD and he will be bringing his hidden transmitter for a fox hunt so bring your HT’s and direction finding antennas. Sometimes the winner has a special antenna and other times just a metal spoon rest!
I tallied the topic survey for future meetings that I handed out at the July meeting. The most popular requests were for kit construction, antennas, digital modes, satellites, fox hunting and QRP. The two topics with the most votes were emergency prep/go kits and solar power—both related to each other. So my work is cut out for me to find speakers/videos to cover those topics. If you know of anyone with expertise, please email me and let me know.
Our speakers for the Sept meeting will be Pet, Mark K., and Arnold discussing DMR, a popular digital mode. Several Chinese companies have affordable HT’s with DMR.
See you at the picnic,
