I am the trustee of the 2-meter repeater( 146.025, pl 136.5, standard + offset) which is located on Mt.Thom in Glendale, with a elevation of 2,450 ft. (746.8m) above sea level. The repeater is located in the Glendale city block house and the antenna is on the fifty-foot tower that is close to the larger 150-foot city tower. The repeater has been located there for many years and used to have a link to another system at the Verdugo Hills Hospital. There was a voter system in place so that either the antenna at the hospital or the antenna on Mt. Thom would pick up the signal, whichever location received the stronger signal. If it was the hospital, then the system at the hospital would transmit the signal to Mt. Thom via the link frequency. However, the system at the hospital was removed several years ago and our antenna was removed from the roof of the hospital after it was damaged in a very strong wind storm.
The 440 repeater(445.680, pl 136.5, standard – offset) is also on Mt. Thom. The repeater’s call sign, N6JLY, was the call sign of one of the Crescenta Valley Radio Club members, Miller Colgrove. Miller died many years ago and we requested permission from his family to be able to use his call sign on the 440 repeater. His family was grateful that we were able to honor Miller by using his call sign on our repeater.
