N6PET/W6HFB(SK) Antenna Project

A tribute to W6HFB starts of a long process of restoring 2 monoband yagis that was inherited from silent key Lester Lanz (W6HFB) with the help of CVRC club members Lisa N6LAL, Randy KB6WSD, Marky KE6ZRP, and Jim N0XXX.       This started from a trip to HRO in Burbank, hoping to improve my HF Butterfly Butternut 2-element yagi antenna by possibly acquiring a Cushcraft A3S. Mark N6MGM had gone through the upgrade I...

A Message From Yasmin Beers

A Message From Yasmin Beers     Interim City Manager   The 2017 wildfire season will go down as one of the worst in the States history. From Jan. 1, 2017, through Dec. 31, 2017, over 9,000 fires burned more than 1.2 million acres, an increase from the previous year which brought 6,986 fires burning around 564,000 acres, according to Cal Fire. This anomaly was partly attributable to the strong gusts of the...

Prez Sez December 2017

The club has been busy advancing our technology and membership. The DMR/analog repeater has been functional for a month or two now and I hope everyone has tried it out. I purchased a TYT MD-380 HT and am having fun on DMR. It comes along at the right time as propagation on HF has been poor lately as we are at the bottom of the solar cycle. Another advantage of DMR is that hams with a technician license...

Prez Sez October 2017

Hi Everyone, Wow, what a great meeting we had last month. The presentation on DMR was truly interesting, entertaining, and thorough. With propagation on HF at a solar low point, I definitely am going to purchase a DMR radio and learn about this new mode. I will be on vacation and miss the October meeting but by the time I return, I expect the new DMR repeater will be up and running. Thank you to Arnold for loaning us the DMR repeater...

Prez Sez September 2017

Hi Everyone, The latest news on the repeater situation is that Pet and Mark K. went up the mountain yesterday and installed our new Samlex power supply. This should put the problems we have been having to rest. The new supply is a rack mounted four times redundant supply. It has 4 20A sections and if one or more go bad the others will still function to keep things going.Thank you to Pet, Mark K., and David for taking care of this....
